Construction on a major upgrade to Stockton’s Preston Park Museum is set to begin, marking a key phase in a £20m redevelopment.
The project includes a two-storey extension to the museum housed in the historic Grade II-listed Preston Hall, alongside improvements to visitor amenities.
The cafe will be expanded with a new entrance, additional seating, and a covered outdoor section overlooking the children’s play area.
A new building will provide modern toilet and accessible changing facilities, replacing the current toilet block once complete.
The museum extension will occupy part of the park’s green space and connect to existing structures, featuring exhibition areas for touring displays and showcasing hundreds of previously unseen local artifacts.
Stockton Council anticipates the new facilities will attract thousands of additional visitors from both the region and beyond.
Progress on the project includes the completion of roofing, internal walls, and an expanded southern car park with 100 additional spaces. Completion of the entire redevelopment is expected next year.
