R&B singer-songwriter Muni Long has revealed details about her separation from Raysean Hairston, a relationship she had kept private for nearly a decade.
Long, who recently released her fourth album, Revenge, discussed the breakup during an appearance on Real 92.3’s The Cruz Show.
The Grammy Award winner explained that Revenge serves as a personal “diary,” marking the first time she has openly shared her own experiences through her music.
“I always pull from real experiences because I’m writing from my unique perspective,” Long said. “But this is the first time I’m putting my real life in it. It’s no secret…I’ve been married for nine years…It just didn’t work out.”
Long and Hairston share a son, who she brought onstage during the Los Angeles stop of Chris Brown’s 11:11 Tour.
Despite the separation, Long emphasized that she is focused on positivity and moving forward. “I don’t have time for drama,” she said. “This is one of the most amazing times in my life, and if you can’t celebrate that with me, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to leave you behind.”
Long also expressed that she is not willing to wait for Hairston to emotionally mature.
“I think it takes incredible strength to realize that this was the love of my life at one point—and he probably could be really good for me if he got it together—but I’m not willing to put my life, my passion, and my happiness on hold for you to catch up,” she explained. “Unfortunately, you might get it in a year…but I’m probably already over it.”
In a 2023 NPR interview, Long had previously spoken about the unique intimacy she experienced with Hairston, saying, “I think everybody deserves at least once in their life to know what that feels like.”
