Cat Janice, known for her viral hit “Dance You Outta My Head,” has tragically passed away at the age of 31 after a brave battle with sarcoma cancer.
Her family shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, revealing that Cat peacefully passed away on Wednesday morning in her childhood home.
Despite her untimely passing, her brother will continue to manage her brand, ensuring that her artistic legacy endures, including the release of more of her unreleased work.
“We are eternally thankful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months,” the family’s statement expressed. “Cat saw her music go places she never expected and rests in the peace of knowing that she will continue to provide for her son through her music. This would not have been possible without all of you.”
Cat Janice’s song “Dance You Outta My Head,” released on Jan. 19, touched countless hearts and soared to No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50. Additionally, it reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and has garnered over 12.8 million streams on Spotify worldwide.
The emotional journey of “Dance You Outta My Head” began when Cat shared the news of her terminal diagnosis on TikTok in early January. Despite her health struggles, she dedicated her final song to her 7-year-old son, with all proceeds from the song intended to support him.
The song quickly became a viral sensation on TikTok, with users creating dance videos set to its infectious beat. Influencers like Charli D’Amelio also joined the movement, urging their followers to stream the song in support of Cat’s legacy.
In an interview with TODAY.com last month, Cat described the song as an anthem of empowerment, reflecting the joy of being in one’s element. Despite her health challenges, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she received.
Cat had bravely shared her cancer journey online since her diagnosis in 2022. Despite moments of hope, including a period of remission in July 2022, she faced setbacks when the cancer returned, spreading to her lungs.
Her final TikTok video, posted on Feb. 19, showed her reacting to a cover of “Dance You Outta My Head,” symbolizing her enduring spirit and the legacy of her music. In the caption, she expressed hope for the future and a return to dancing beyond the confines of her earthly body.
