A woman has filed civil lawsuits against British author Neil Gaiman and his ex-wife, Amanda Palmer, accusing Gaiman of sexually assaulting her.
The lawsuits, which span across Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and New York, allege that the former couple violated federal human trafficking laws, with specific claims of assault, battery, and inflicting emotional distress against Gaiman, and negligence against Palmer.
The woman is seeking at least $7 million (£5.6 million) in damages.
Gaiman, 64, known for works such as Good Omens, American Gods, and The Sandman, has denied the allegations, which were made by eight women.
He stated, “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.”
According to the lawsuits, the woman was befriended by Palmer at the age of 22 while she was homeless in New Zealand.
She began working for the couple, which the lawsuits claim is when the alleged assaults began.
Palmer reportedly informed the woman that there had been previous complaints from more than a dozen women regarding similar incidents.
In January 2024, a New York Magazine article highlighted allegations made by five women, four of whom were also featured in a Tortoise Media podcast series released in the summer of 2024.
Gaiman addressed the allegations in a blog post on 14 January 2024, stating he had remained silent out of respect for those sharing their stories and to avoid spreading misinformation.
He acknowledged being “careless with people’s hearts and feelings” and admitted he could have “done so much better,” but insisted that he did not accept any claims of abuse.
