The award-winning Plymouth Music Zone (PMZ), a community charity that provides music access to people of all ages and abilities, has narrowly avoided closure thanks to a last-minute influx of support.
PMZ, which operates a music education center in Plymouth, recently warned that it could no longer sustain its running costs and faced closure after 25 years of service.
However, a surge of public support and donations has given the organization a lifeline, allowing it to remain open—at least temporarily.
In a statement, Chris Hunt, chair of trustees, Karl Meyer, music programme director, and the PMZ team expressed their gratitude, calling the response “astonishing” and “incredibly humbling.”
The statement continued, “We wanted to say a massive thank you to our people, communities, stakeholders, and supporters for reminding us just how much music, creativity, and PMZ means to you.”
PMZ is still awaiting confirmation of additional funding, which it hopes will allow it to operate beyond March 2025.
This temporary reprieve has strengthened PMZ’s commitment to ensuring the future of their mission: “Our hard work continues,” the team added.
“Thank you from the bottom of our collective hearts for caring so much and for believing in and supporting Plymouth Music Zone.”
