The Princess of Wales has announced that she is in remission from cancer, marking the milestone with a heartfelt return to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she underwent treatment.
In an emotional social media post, Catherine expressed her gratitude and relief while focusing on recovery.
“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she shared, signing the post simply as “C.”
During her visit to the hospital, Catherine spoke candidly with patients, empathizing with their struggles and offering words of encouragement.
“It’s really tough… but there is light at the end of that tunnel,” she reassured one patient undergoing chemotherapy.
This visit marked the first public confirmation of Catherine’s remission.
Her cancer journey became known last January when she underwent abdominal surgery, followed by an announcement in March revealing her diagnosis.
By September, she shared the news that her chemotherapy had concluded.
Catherine praised the Royal Marsden for its “exceptional” care and thanked the staff for supporting her and Prince William during a challenging time.
“We couldn’t have asked for more,” she wrote, acknowledging the quiet strength of those who stood by them.
Returning now as a visitor rather than a patient, the princess shared her experiences of the long-term effects of treatment.
“You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge,” she admitted.
During the visit, Catherine comforted Tina Adumou, whose 19-year-old daughter is in intensive care.
Offering a hug and words of solace, the princess emphasized the high level of care at the hospital. “You are in the best of hands,” she said.
The Royal Marsden Hospital, founded in 1851, specializes in cancer treatment and research and treats nearly 60,000 patients annually.
Catherine now serves as its joint royal patron alongside Prince William, following in the footsteps of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Since concluding her treatment, Catherine has gradually resumed public engagements, including Remembrance Sunday and her Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, which were seen as hopeful signs of her recovery.
Her visit to the Royal Marsden marks her first significant engagement of 2025, symbolizing a poignant full-circle moment in her cancer journey.
