Rashida Jones is remembering her legendary father, Quincy Jones, after his passing on November 3. In a heartfelt Instagram post on November 7, Parks & Recreation alum Rashida recalled cherished childhood memories of sitting with her father during his late-night composing sessions.
“When I was little,” she shared, “I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him.
Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music).” She fondly recalled how he would welcome her into his arms, creating “no safer place in the world.”
In her tribute, Rashida described Quincy as “a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius,” noting that, above all, he was “love.” She added, “He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen.
That’s his legacy.” Reflecting on her close bond with him, she wrote, “I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
Quincy Jones, a music icon whose career spanned over seven decades, won 28 Grammys, an Emmy, and a Tony, and became the first African American nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1968.
He was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1995, cementing his influence on the music industry and beyond. He passed away at age 91 in Bel Air, California, surrounded by family.
In a statement, Quincy’s family expressed pride in his legacy, saying, “The love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created… Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity.”
