The legendary guitar played by Irish rock and blues icon Rory Gallagher throughout his career has been sold at auction for more than £889,000.
Gallagher, considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, purchased the 1961 Fender Stratocaster for just £100 in 1963.
The guitar was bought by Live Nation Gaiety Ltd, with plans to donate it to the National Museum of Ireland.
It was among several instruments and items from Gallagher’s estate auctioned on Thursday, with an estimated reserve price of £700,000 to £1 million.
The sale took place at Bonham’s auction house in London, with the final hammer price set at £700,000, but including premiums, the total reached £889,400.
This iconic guitar was part of a 94-lot collection featuring guitars, amps, and accessories from Gallagher’s illustrious career, collectively making £2.3 million.
The entire collection was on public display for the first time before the auction.
