Following her success in Gavin and Stacey, Ruth Jones has secured a leading role in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Harlan Coben’s thriller novel, Run Away.
Jones will star alongside Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt in the eight-part series, based on Coben’s 2019 book.
Jones, best known for co-writing and starring as Nessa in Gavin and Stacey, a show that culminated in one of the most-watched scripted TV finales of the century, will play Elena Ravenscroft.
The plot follows Simon (played by Nesbitt), whose life unravels after his daughter Paige, portrayed by Ellie de Lange, runs away.
Joining the ensemble cast are British-American actress Minnie Driver and Alfred Enoch, famous for his role as Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter series.
Run Away marks the thirteenth adaptation of Coben’s work for Netflix, with filming set to begin in Manchester and the north-west of England later this month.
The series has been relocated to the UK, in line with previous Coben adaptations.
Coben expressed excitement about the star-studded cast, calling it an “embarrassment of riches” and saying, “I can’t wait to start filming.”
Danny Brocklehurst, who has adapted several of Coben’s novels, including Fool Me Once starring Michelle Keegan and Dame Joanna Lumley, will serve as the lead writer.
Brocklehurst noted the high expectations following the success of Fool Me Once, but hopes the “emotionally universal storyline” and talented cast will deliver another hit for audiences.
