Selena Gomez took to Instagram on Monday to share a heartfelt reflection on body image, embracing her journey and proudly celebrating her grown woman body.
The “Calm Down” vocalist posted a set of images comparing her physique at 21 to a recent snapshot during a trip to Cabo San Lucas in 2023.
In the first image, captured when she was 21, Gomez candidly acknowledged the changes in her body, writing, “Today I realized I will never look like this again…”
The second picture shows Gomez climbing onto a yacht, with a message conveying her self-acceptance: “I’m not perfect, but I am proud to be who I am… Sometimes I forget it’s ok to be me.”
This Instagram revelation is not the first time Gomez has spoken openly about body positivity, especially in the context of her battle with lupus. In a Fast Company interview last October, the “Only Murders in the Building” actress discussed making peace with her body’s evolution and criticized societal expectations, particularly during her private struggle with the autoimmune disease and a kidney transplant in 2017.

“None of the sample sizes were fitting, and that would make me feel embarrassed,” Gomez shared. “Although how unrealistic is it to expect a normal woman’s body not to change?”
The multi-talented artist also highlighted the impact of social media on her mental health, revealing how comparisons on platforms like Instagram took a toll, particularly after her high-profile breakup with Justin Bieber, with whom she had an on-and-off relationship from 2010 to 2018.
“I had just gotten my heart broken. I didn’t need to see what everyone was doing,” Gomez explained. “Then there were those moments of not feeling positive about how I looked because of what I’d see on Instagram. Wow, I wish my body looked like that.”
