Shakira has shared her thoughts on the possibility of finding love again in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
The singer, who graces the cover of the latest issue, spoke about navigating motherhood and her emotional journey since parting ways with retired soccer star Gerard Piqué in 2022.
The former couple, who met on the set of Shakira’s iconic “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” music video in 2011, shares two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. In her interview, Shakira emphasized that her children’s well-being remains her top priority as she contemplates her personal life moving forward.
While the 47-year-old has been seen in the company of various figures, including athletes Jimmy Butler and Lewis Hamilton, as well as actor Lucien Laviscount, she remains cautious about entering into a new relationship.
“I’m not thinking about that… What space do I have for a man right now?” she told Rolling Stone. “My kids would have to be very prepared for that, and their emotional and psychological well-being is the priority.”
Reflecting on her breakup with Piqué, which garnered significant media attention, Shakira acknowledged the profound emotional impact it had on her.
“The suffering I felt was probably the greatest I had ever experienced in my entire life,” she shared with Rolling Stone. “It felt like someone had stabbed a hole in my chest. And the sensation was so real, almost physical. I physically felt like I had a hole in my chest and that people could see through me.”
Despite the challenges, Shakira has channeled her emotions into her music, including her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, where she has expressed her feelings about the breakup through her songs. She has been open about her journey of healing and growth, focusing on her role as a mother and artist.
