Shakira, 47, has hinted that her latest album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women No Longer Cry), marks the conclusion of her musical jabs at ex-partner Gerard Piqué.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 ahead of the album’s release, Shakira revealed that the title of the album was inspired by a lyric from her collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.”
The track, known for its over 706 million views on YouTube, previously took aim at the FC Barcelona soccer player over infidelity rumors.
While the album features singles like “TQG” with Karol G and “El Jefe” with Mexican regional band Fuerza Regida, both of which allude to her past relationship with Piqué, Shakira stated that she’s wrapping up this chapter with one final song.
Titled “Última,” one of two ballads on the album, Shakira expresses gratitude for her time with Piqué but acknowledges their incompatible lifestyles as the reason for their split. She revealed to Lowe that “Última” almost didn’t make it onto the album due to time constraints, but her persistence led to its inclusion.
“I said, I got one more song here and it’s like, it’s—I gotta spit it out or I won’t be able to, you know. I’ll choke. I need to get this one out,” Shakira said.
“The people at Sony [Music] were like, ‘No, no, no, no, there’s no more time. This needs to be shipped, otherwise we’re not going to make it to have the vinyls ready. You can’t do anything else with this album,'” she continued.
Despite initial resistance from her label, Sony Music, Shakira managed to record and mix the song in one afternoon. The emotional impact of “Última” was evident when the head of marketing at Sony broke down in tears upon hearing it, a rare occurrence in Shakira’s studio.
Reflecting on the song’s inclusion, Shakira emphasized that it’s not just about her or Piqué but touches on broader themes.

However, she left open the possibility of changing her mind in the future.
Shakira’s relationship with Piqué, which spanned 11 years, came to an end in 2022. They met in 2010 on the set of her “Waka Waka” music video and went public with their relationship in 2011.
The couple shares two sons, Milan and Sasha, and reached a custody agreement following their separation, with Shakira and the children relocating to Miami.
“Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” features collaborations with Cardi B, Karol G, Bizarrap, and Rauw Alejandro, among others, and is available for streaming now.
