During the 81st Golden Globes, comedian Jo Koy found himself in hot water after making a joke about Taylor Swift that left the pop sensation visibly unamused.
As the host of the annual award show, Koy took a dig at Swift during the opening monologue, drawing attention to her frequent coverage on NFL programming due to her relationship with Travis Kelce.
“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” Koy quipped.
The camera then cut to Swift, capturing her reaction as she sipped her drink. The awkward moment did not go unnoticed, sparking reactions online.

In addition to the Swift diss, Koy’s overall opening monologue received widespread criticism. The comedian acknowledged the mixed reception, humorously commenting on the short time span he had to prepare for the show.

CBS appointed Koy as the host on December 18 after other comedians, including Chris Rock and Ali Wong, turned down the opportunity.
“Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago,” Koy explained. “You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. I wrote some of these, and those are the ones you’re laughing at.”
Swift’s increased coverage on NFL programming became a topic of discussion last October when the NFL released a statement addressing the attention.
The statement explained that the coverage was a response to the real-time intersection of sport and entertainment, emphasizing the positive reception the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news received.
