Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has made a grand entrance into the music scene with the release of her highly anticipated debut album, “Born in the Wild,” which dropped on Friday via RCA Records and Since ’93.
The 18-track project showcases Tems’ unique blend of Afrobeat and R&B, featuring collaborations with notable artists such as Asake and J. Cole.
Among the standout tracks on the album are “Get It Right,” featuring Asake, and “Free Fall,” featuring J. Cole, which have already garnered attention from fans and critics alike.
Additionally, the album includes previously released singles like “Love Me JeJe” and “Me & U,” with the latter earning Tems recognition at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding International Song.
“Love Me JeJe,” a reinterpretation of Nigerian singer-songwriter Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit, soared to No. 4 on U.S. Afrobeats Songs and No. 9 on Hot R&B Songs, while “Me & U” reached No. 3 on U.S. Afrobeats Songs and No. 27 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. Tems showcased her musical prowess with performances of the title track “Born in the Wild” and “Love Me JeJe” on The Tonight Show in May, further solidifying her place as a rising star in the global music scene.
The release of “Born in the Wild” marks a significant milestone for Tems, coming three years after her last EP, “If Orange Was a Place,” which received critical acclaim and peaked at No. 7 on the World Albums chart. The EP featured collaborations with artists like Brent Faiyaz, including the track “Found.”
To celebrate the release of her debut album, Tems is embarking on her first-ever world tour, taking her music across the globe.
The “Born in the Wild World Tour” will kick off at London’s Eventim Apollo on June 12, featuring special guests Naomi Sharon and Lekan. The 31-date trek will span across Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia, culminating with three dates in Australia in November, including performances in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney.
