Tom Grennan is hoping to secure the coveted Christmas number one spot with his track It Can’t Be Christmas, which is currently in a fierce battle with Wham’s Last Christmas and Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You.
As a devoted supporter of Coventry City, Grennan has called on fellow Sky Blues fans to help push his song to the top of the charts.
In a show of commitment, he recently got the phrase “Christmas no.1 2024 is…” tattooed on his leg, planning to complete it with whichever song clinches the top spot.
Speaking to BBC CWR, Grennan expressed how much achieving a Christmas number one would mean to him, calling it “the best” and an incredible way to close out the year.
“I’ll have the best Christmas even if I don’t get number one, but I’ve worked so hard this year with getting a record done and touring,” he said.
According to the latest update from the Official UK Chart, Wham is currently the favourite to take the top spot for the second consecutive year, with Grennan and Carey close behind.
However, Grennan believes that with the backing of Coventry fans, a surprise victory could be within reach.
“There are a lot of Sky Blues fans and I believe that if every single one of them got behind me, we actually could do it,” he said.
The winner of the Christmas number one will be announced on Friday during The Official Chart show on BBC Radio 1, hosted by Jack Saunders.
