Trina has set the record straight on her previous comments about Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj, emphasizing her admiration for Queen Bey while also shedding light on her relationship with Minaj.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Carlos King on the web series Reality With the King, Trina revisited her stance on Beyoncé, reiterating her position that the global icon reigns supreme in her eyes when it comes to rap.
The conversation touched on Trina’s collaboration with Minaj on the 2019 track “BAPS” and its tumultuous release, which was marred by issues within Trina’s team.
Trina expressed frustration with the mishandling of the song’s rollout, attributing it partly to her team’s lack of transparency.
Things took a sour turn when a member of Trina’s team made offensive remarks about Minaj on social media, mistakenly believing that Minaj was not supporting the release of “BAPS.” Trina condemned the actions of her team member, emphasizing the importance of maintaining respect, especially in public forums.
“I felt like he acted out of emotion but you don’t act out of emotion on [Instagram] Live against a celebrity; that’s somebody that I know that I have a relationship with.”
Amid these challenges, Trina was also dealing with her mother’s battle with cancer, which tragically ended in 2019. She revealed that Minaj was one of the first people to reach out to her after her mother’s passing, highlighting their friendship despite not having spoken in a few years.
However, Trina’s admiration for Beyoncé remains unwavering. Despite her friendly relationship with Minaj, Trina stands firm in her belief that Beyoncé holds the title of the ‘Queen of Rap.’ She emphasized Beyoncé’s unparalleled talent and influence, describing her as a top-tier artist who continually pushes boundaries.
Trina clarified that while she gives credit to Minaj, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, and other talented female artists, Beyoncé will always hold the number one spot in her eyes.
