An inspiring documentary, Beyond Limits, captures the training efforts of ten fitness enthusiasts from Berkshire as they prepare for a half Ironman triathlon—a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile cycle, and a 13.1-mile run.
The film was shot and edited by 18-year-old Sean Smith, whose work marks a major step forward in his filmmaking journey despite the challenges of being autistic.
The project was directed by Sean’s uncle, Raymond Mouzon, who runs RAM Fitness in Bracknell.
Mouzon was impressed after watching a previous video Sean made about a relative training for a triathlon. “It was literally like a mini movie and I was like—wow, this kid can edit,” he recalled.
What began as a casual conversation over Facetime quickly transformed into a fully realized production, complete with coordinated equipment, scheduled interviews, and a successful premiere on Friday.
One of the participants, Joyce Jeffrey, joined mainly for health reasons. “As you get older, fitness becomes a bit more important, especially when you see people around you facing health scares,” she said.
Although she was initially nervous about being on the big screen, Joyce was delighted with the final result, noting it was a satisfying reflection of all the hard work they had put in.
For Sean Smith, creating Beyond Limits was “a massive step into the unknown.” He acknowledged that while he had experience with college projects and personal videos, nothing had ever been on such a scale.
His work represents not only the collective effort of the group pushing past their limits, but also his personal triumph over the challenges posed by his disability. “Nothing can stop you.
You can do whatever you put your mind to,” he affirmed, leaving viewers with an empowering message of determination and perseverance.
