Devin Strader, who recently made headlines for calling off his engagement with Jenn Tran on the finale of The Bachelorette, is facing scrutiny over his past. Legal documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly reveal that Strader was arrested in 2017 for allegedly burglarizing his ex-girlfriend’s Louisiana home. According to the affidavit from the Baton Rouge Police Department, the woman discovered her home had been broken into and a diamond necklace was missing.
The affidavit also includes claims of troubling behavior from Strader. His ex reported that he frequently showed up at her house, banging on the door and yelling. Additionally, he allegedly laughed at her when she had a flat tire and, after receiving a restraining order, was accused of burning the legal documents in the street.
Following the filing, Strader was charged with burglary but ultimately pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and simple criminal damage to property, receiving one year of unsupervised probation.
ABC, the network behind The Bachelorette, has stated that they were unaware of Strader’s restraining order before his casting. “We take the safety of our contestants very seriously and make every effort to conduct thorough diligence,” a production source said. “As exhaustive as our vetting process is, this protective order did not surface in our searches.”
Strader has yet to publicly comment on the legal issues. He did, however, address his breakup with Jenn Tran in a deleted Instagram video posted on September 10. In the video, Strader expressed regret over the end of their relationship, stating that the breakup was necessary for his own happiness and apologizing for any hurt caused.
