Drew Barrymore recently shared a heartwarming family moment involving her 50 First Dates costar Adam Sandler.
During an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show airing on Nov. 11, the Charlie’s Angels star recalled walking in on one of her daughters watching their iconic 2004 rom-com with Sandler’s daughter at her house.
The surprise led her to ask, “Why are you guys watching this? Don’t you get enough of me and your dad?”
Barrymore, who has daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, noted it was a “sweet and wonderful” moment to share with Sandler, who is dad to Sadie, 18, and Sunny, 16, with wife Jackie Sandler.
The families have blended well, often coming together to revisit old memories and enjoy each other’s company.
Reflecting on 50 First Dates, Barrymore also mentioned how the film originally had a different title and ending.
Initially called 50 First Kisses, the ending once showed Barrymore’s character, Lucy, telling Henry (Sandler) to live his life without her.
In this version, Henry returns to the restaurant and simply says, “Hi, I’m Henry,” before the credits roll—a far cry from the movie’s final heartwarming conclusion.
This isn’t the first time Barrymore has looked back on their on-screen moments with affection.
In January, she shared an emotional Instagram message after watching The Wedding Singer, their first film together.
“We made such a good movie. I love you so much,” she told Sandler, who responded, “Love u always, Drew.”
Barrymore and Sandler’s enduring friendship, spanning over two decades and multiple films, has made their families close as well, creating touching and memorable experiences that continue to bridge their personal and professional lives.
