On the September 18 premiere of The Golden Bachelorette, Joan Vassos awarded her first impression rose to 62-year-old Keith Gordon. The choice was not influenced by extravagant entrances or flashy gestures but rather by the genuine connection she felt with Keith.
In an exclusive interview with E! News, Joan revealed that Keith’s classic station wagon entrance, while memorable, was not the primary reason for her decision. “The nostalgia of that old station wagon made me think back to my childhood,” Joan said. “It reminded me of how we used to travel as a family. That automatically gave me a good feeling.”
Joan’s connection with Keith deepened during their conversation on the hood of his car. “We just had a nice, normal conversation, and he made me feel comfortable immediately,” Joan noted. She admitted that she didn’t want to leave him when it was time to meet the next contestant.
Keith’s thoughtful suggestion for a wine-and-cheese picnic on the beach resonated with Joan, making her feel that he understood her well. Although they didn’t get to go on that outing, they spent quality time playing cornhole and chatting by the fire.
Joan described Keith as a comforting presence, likening him to a “big teddy bear” who made her feel safe. This sense of security and ease was something she hadn’t experienced since the death of her husband John Vassos in 2021.
Keith, too, expressed his admiration for Joan. “Joan is just so easy to talk to,” he said. “She’s beautiful, and our connection felt natural and special. I know there’s something there that we might be able to build on.”
