The highly anticipated trial of rapper Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams, has commenced in an Atlanta courtroom after nearly a year of delays.
The artist, arrested in May 2022, faces charges in a wide-reaching RICO indictment along with 27 co-defendants.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is also prosecuting former President Donald Trump in a separate case related to Georgia election interference, accuses the defendants of belonging to a criminal street gang known as YSL or “Young Slime Life.”
The charges include allegations of violent crimes such as murders, shootings, carjackings, and racketeering.
Young Thug vehemently denies the accusations, asserting that YSL represents his record label, Young Stoner Life, and not a criminal organization.

The trial, marked by a series of delays, has seen some defendants taking plea deals or having their cases separated.
As the trial entered its second week, Young Thug gained attention for his courtroom attire, particularly a designer sweater adorned with a wolf, sparking speculation about a potential message directed at the prosecution.
Another viral moment captured the rapper seemingly mouthing “I love you” to his girlfriend Mariah the Scientist across the courtroom.
