Lil Wayne has delved into why he sees himself as the LeBron James of hip-hop, highlighting shared experiences and accomplishments.
Wayne draws attention to the similarities between his career trajectory and LeBron’s, both entering their respective fields as teenagers and maintaining an unparalleled level of success and consistency.
“I would say that I’m like a LeBron,” Wayne states, emphasizing that he released his first solo album at 14, which went on to achieve platinum status. “And I’ve been doing this at this pace of higher ever since, just like him.”
Having become the youngest signee for Cash Money Records at the age of 11, Wayne, alongside B.G., Juvenile, and Turk, formed the influential group Hot Boys, releasing their debut album in 1997. LeBron, at 17, was already making waves as “The Chosen One” on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Reflecting on their early achievements, Wayne’s first solo album reached platinum status, while LeBron secured the NBA Rookie of the Year award at 19.

Both artists continued to evolve in their respective fields, with LeBron accumulating four NBA titles, four MVP trophies, and 19 All-Star selections, and Wayne earning five Grammy awards and establishing Young Money Entertainment, home to Nicki Minaj and Drake.
In the interview, Wayne contemplates the longevity of their careers, drawing a parallel with the persistent speculation about Tom Brady’s retirement. “That’s how I feel when people ask when Tha Carter VI coming out. Like, ‘God damn it, that’s six of ’em. And they still want it?'”
However, Wayne also expresses disappointment with Kevin Durant, revealing that a collaboration for Carter VI was in the works until Durant disclosed it publicly. Wayne humorously remarks, “Now that you’ve said something, it’s not going on Carter VI.”
