Nicole Kidman wasn’t initially on board with her daughter Sunday Rose Urban making her runway debut at Paris Fashion Week, but in the end, it was Sunday’s determination—and the support of fashion icon Miuccia Prada—that made it happen.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on December 4, Nicole, 57, revealed that she was hesitant at first.
“That’s all driven by her,” Nicole admitted, referencing her 16-year-old daughter’s decision to pursue a career in fashion. “Me going, ‘Oh no, I don’t think so.’”
However, when Miuccia Prada, the founder of Miu Miu, showed interest in Sunday, Nicole was persuaded.
“Miuccia just loved her,” Nicole shared. “She was like, ‘No, I want her.’ And Miuccia is so powerful as a woman. So that was a good match.”
Nicole, who also shares daughter Faith Margaret, 14, with husband Keith Urban, and Bella and Connor Cruise, 31 and 29, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, had some words of encouragement for Sunday before the big moment.
“I was just like, ‘You got this baby,'” she recalled.
“I’m trying to give her her own space, you know? [Not be] overbearing or dominant in any way.”
After Sunday’s successful runway debut at the Miu Miu Paris Womenswear show in October, Nicole felt “incredibly proud and supportive” of her daughter.
Keith Urban, Sunday’s dad, also expressed his admiration, telling E! News that he thought she did a “very good” job.
“At the end of the day, anything that any of us choose to do involves an enormous amount of work,” Keith added.
Sunday herself was thrilled to take part in the show, sharing her excitement with Vogue’s TikTok, saying, “I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, so when the offer came through, it was so exciting. And now, the day’s finally here.”
Despite initial hesitations, it’s clear that Sunday’s family is incredibly proud of her achievement and supportive of her budding career in fashion.
