Mark Palios, joint owner of Tranmere Rovers, has hinted that a deal to sell the League Two club could be finalized “ASAP,” amid speculation that rapper A$AP Rocky may be involved in the takeover.
The 36-year-old rapper, known for his relationship with pop star Rihanna, is reportedly part of an investment group led by celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina, which is looking to purchase an 80% stake in the Birkenhead club.
Palios, who has co-owned Tranmere Rovers with his wife Nicola since 2014, addressed the potential sale in an interview with Sky Sports.
While he did not confirm A$AP Rocky’s involvement, Palios’s response to the question of a timeline for the deal—delivered with a smile—was simply, “ASAP.”
In a follow-up interview with BBC Radio Merseyside, Palios revealed that the search for investment in the club has been ongoing for nearly two years.
“The club has potential that is unrealised and it can be taken forward,” he said, clarifying that while the club wasn’t officially up for sale, they had been approached by interested parties.
Tacopina, who has previously held ownership roles in four different Italian clubs, has reportedly attended Tranmere games, according to Palios.
“Joe has been at games but so have other people that people don’t recognise because they’re not as well known as him,” Palios noted, adding that Tacopina is “an interesting character” and one of several individuals showing interest in the club.
When asked about A$AP Rocky, who boasts 36.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Palios admitted he wasn’t personally familiar with the rapper’s work, saying, “I’m of an age where it’s not really something I’m desperately into, but I’m told he’s very well regarded.”
