Strictly Come Dancing stars Wynne Evans and Katya Jones have responded to speculation about some seemingly awkward moments between them during Saturday’s live show.
Viewers had pointed out that at one point, Jones appeared to decline a high-five from Evans, and later, she was seen moving his hand from her waist.
The pair quickly clarified that these moments were part of an ongoing “inside joke” and have reassured fans that there was no discomfort between them.
In a joint social media video, the duo addressed the high-five incident that took place in the show’s iconic “Clauditorium” after they had finished their performance and were waiting for their scores.
Evans, the Welsh opera singer and BBC Radio Wales presenter, turned to Jones to offer a high-five, which she seemingly declined.
However, the pair explained that this was just playful banter.
“We just wanted to say we were messing around,” Jones explained in the video alongside Evans.
Both apologized for any misunderstanding, with Evans adding in a post on X that they are “really amazing friends” and that the high-five moment was simply a “running joke” between them.
Later in the show, another moment attracted attention when Jones moved Evans’s hand away from her waist after the scores for fellow contestants Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał were announced.
In a follow-up video, Jones clarified that the hand gesture was also part of their lighthearted exchanges.
“The hand incident that happened on Saturday night was a very silly inside joke between Wynne and I,” she explained.
She dismissed any suggestions that the interaction made her uncomfortable, calling it “complete nonsense” and asking viewers to focus on Evans’s dancing progress instead.
The pair’s performance on Saturday featured a tango to Abba’s “Money, Money, Money,” complete with a business-themed set that had Evans in a shirt and tie, while Jones sported a white sleeveless blazer and skirt.
Their playful dynamic was evident throughout the night, with Jones clapping and leaping onto a desk in celebration of their performance.
Despite the media buzz, Strictly’s welfare team has checked in on Evans and Jones, confirming that no further actions are necessary.
A BBC source stated that the situation has been resolved, and both contestants are continuing to enjoy their time on the show.
Evans, who rose to fame as the fictional Gio Compario in ads for Go Compare, expressed his gratitude for the support he’s received and reaffirmed his commitment to the competition.
He and Jones successfully made it through to the next round, while DIY SOS star Nick Knowles became the third contestant to be eliminated from the current series.
