Nick Butterworth, the award-winning author of Percy the Park Keeper, has joined Lionwood Infant School’s mission to create a library, aiming to instill a love for reading among pupils.
The 78-year-old author visited the Norwich, Norfolk school, where he shared stories and engaged students with his love for books.
Butterworth described the children as “enthusiastic for books” and expressed joy in being part of their library fundraising efforts.
The school aims to raise £5,000 to establish the library, a goal Butterworth has supported by auctioning some of his original artwork and signing books at an evening event.
The experience was particularly memorable for students like five-year-old Skye, who enjoyed hearing Butterworth read Percy the Park Keeper, her favorite book.
Sam Thorpe, the head of the school, highlighted the impact of Butterworth’s presence, stating it was a “wonderful opportunity” that could “develop a reading culture in the school.”
With Butterworth’s support, Lionwood hopes to soon bring the dream of a school library to life, inspiring a generation of eager young readers.
