Harry Styles, George Michael, Sinead O’Connor, and Ed Sheeran are among the voices featured in a new “ultimate mix” of Band Aid’s iconic charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas?, as part of a 40th-anniversary compilation.
Founders Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, and producer Trevor Horn have announced the reimagined song, which blends vocals from artists across generations, including Sting, Boy George, Sugababes, Sam Smith, Bono, Chris Martin, Rita Ora, Robbie Williams, and Guy Garvey.
The original 1984 song, recorded by a supergroup of pop stars to aid anti-famine efforts in Ethiopia, has been re-recorded for milestone anniversaries, featuring popular artists from each era.
This new mix combines voices from each version, skillfully layered over instrumentals by legends like Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Roger Taylor, and Thom Yorke.
Voices from late stars George Michael and Sinead O’Connor add a poignant layer to the remix.
The “ultimate mix” will premiere on British radio on November 25, exactly 40 years after the song’s original recording.
The song will also have an accompanying video by Oliver Murray, featuring archival footage of David Bowie and scenes from BBC journalist Michael Buerk’s iconic famine report.
This release will coincide with the launch of a full anniversary compilation album on November 29.
Since its debut, Do They Know It’s Christmas? has raised over £140 million through various releases and events, like the legendary Live Aid and Live 8 concerts.
While some recent versions faced criticism for outdated lyrics, this remix offers a fresh take that honors Band Aid’s legacy while supporting ongoing charitable initiatives.
