Fans of Gavin & Stacey are eagerly counting down to the show’s much-anticipated final episode, airing on BBC One this Christmas Day.
Several promotional and behind-the-scenes photos have been released, offering glimpses of the beloved cast back together in familiar locations.
The new promo image features James Corden as Smithy, Ruth Jones as Nessa, Mathew Horne as Gavin, and Joanna Page as Stacey standing on Trinity Street in Barry.
Additional photos reveal Gavin, Stacey, Nessa, Gwen (Melanie Walters), and Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) piling into Bryn’s car, hinting at a festive trip to Essex.
The official synopsis teases plenty of family fun and inevitable chaos. “In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex.”
Soon, the group reunites at Pam and Mick’s house, where Mick (Larry Lamb) is seen practicing his golf swings while Pam (Alison Steadman) stresses about hosting duties.
Rob Brydon’s Bryn appears ready for some limbo action, while Pete (Adrian Scarborough) and Dawn (Julia Davis) seem to be navigating yet another bumpy chapter in their marriage.
The special will pick up five years after the emotional 2019 Christmas special, which ended on a cliffhanger with Nessa proposing to Smithy.
Whether or not he said “yes” remains to be seen, keeping fans in suspense.
Co-writers and stars Ruth Jones and James Corden confirmed that the Christmas special marks their last day ever working on Gavin & Stacey.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Corden shared, “Today is the last day on the finale… We’ve done the edit, now we’re doing the sound effects.” Jones added: “It’ll be the last day we’re in the studio together.”
Although this will be the final episode, Jones hinted that the characters’ stories will live on beyond the screen: “It’s not like they’re dying… We feel like they still exist… we’re just not party to what goes on in their lives anymore.”
The cast delighted fans during filming earlier this year, with scenes shot around Barry and Barry Island’s seafront.
With the release of these heartwarming images, anticipation is running high for what promises to be a fitting send-off for one of Britain’s most beloved sitcoms.
Tune in on Christmas Day for the final chapter of Gavin & Stacey, and find out where life has taken the unforgettable characters of Barry and Billericay.
