Siobhán McSweeney, best known for her role as Sister Michael in Derry Girls and as the host of The Great Pottery Throw Down, will host the Irish version of the reality show The Traitors, announced Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
The show, which will be filmed on location in Ireland, will feature a cast of contestants from across the country.
McSweeney, a self-proclaimed fan of the show, expressed her excitement about the opportunity, saying, “Like everyone, I am a huge Traitors fan.”
She teased that the Irish charm and ability to deceive while maintaining a friendly demeanor would make the show particularly unique.
“The Irish have a charm and ability to deceive while smiling, which will make this version rather special, I think,” McSweeney added.
RTÉ’s Steve Carson, director of video, echoed McSweeney’s enthusiasm, stating that the broadcaster was excited to bring The Traitors Ireland to their audience, adding that McSweeney would be “at the heart of it.”
The series will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player in 2025, produced by Kite Entertainment.
The game will see 22 contestants arrive at a remote castle to play a high-stakes game of deception, betrayal, and trust, with a €50,000 prize at stake.
The players must uncover the Traitors, who secretly eliminate a contestant each night, without being caught.
If any Traitors remain undetected until the end, they will steal the prize money.
This Irish version follows successful adaptations in the UK, US, and Netherlands.
The second season finale of the UK version, which aired in January 2024, attracted nearly seven million viewers.
A celebrity version of the show is also set to air on the BBC, with series three and four already confirmed.
