Keal Productions is making waves in Grimsby Docks, becoming the first film company to set up shop in the historic Kasbah quarter.
Known for its period features, the area has already attracted the attention of filmmakers, having served as a backdrop for popular titles like Atonement, This Is England, and Netflix’s Bodies.
Now, Keal Productions hopes to capitalize on Lincolnshire’s untapped creative potential.
Heather Greenwood, BAFTA-nominated executive and managing director of Keal Productions, believes the location is a perfect match for their vision.
“With so many stories and places yet to be discovered, the sheer scale of creative opportunity is mind-blowing,” she said, calling the region a “natural fit” for her business.
The company has also launched Location Lincs, a service dedicated to finding filming locations and sourcing crew and facilities for future projects.
As a Lincolnshire native, Greenwood is passionate about showcasing the area’s beauty and talent.
“Being Lincolnshire born and bred, I am immensely proud of the incredible people, places, and landscapes that I have grown up with,” she shared.
Associated British Ports (ABP), which owns the Kasbah quarter, has actively promoted the area for film and television, highlighting its historic charm.
ABP regional director Simon Bird expressed excitement about Keal Productions’ arrival. “It’s great to see the interest in our port’s historic quarter, which is at the start of its cinematic journey,” he said.
Bird added that the move could boost the local economy by creating jobs and attracting further investment.
Greg Lacey, head of property at ABP, emphasized the wider potential for the region, stating that Grimsby could become a film production hub for Lincolnshire and the surrounding Yorkshire and Humber regions.
He pointed to the UK’s booming film and television industry, which saw a production spend of £4.2 billion last year, more than doubling the previous year’s total.
Lacey is confident that Grimsby’s unique selling points will help it stand out as a top filming destination.
