Despite being a holiday classic, Home Alone hasn’t yet made it onto the Christmas watchlist in Kieran Culkin’s household.
The Succession actor, who shares daughter Kinsey, 5, and son Wilder, 3, with wife Jazz Charton, explained why he’s holding off on introducing the film that starred their uncle, Macaulay Culkin, in his breakout role.
“There are still some scary parts,” Kieran told E! News at The Gothams Annual Film Awards.
“For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula and the guy at the end who says, ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.’ That’s scary for a 3-year-old.”
However, Kieran hinted the time might be near, adding, “We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year.”
The film, while nostalgic for fans, holds a different memory for Kieran, who witnessed the overwhelming fame it brought his brother Macaulay.
Reflecting on the experience, Kieran shared in a 2023 interview, “Even as a kid, I remember thinking, ‘That sucks for him.’ Poor guy, having to accept that level of fame as reality.”
Macaulay, meanwhile, has already introduced Home Alone to his son Dakota, 3, with fiancée Brenda Song.
“I showed it to him last year—he thinks it’s so funny,”
Macaulay shared in an interview, jokingly convincing his son that he was the boy in the movie.
“I said, ‘Remember when you were getting the bad guys?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah!’”
For now, the Culkin family is keeping the decision lighthearted, balancing holiday traditions with age-appropriate fun.
