One Direction star Liam Payne penned a touching note to his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, predicting they would get married within a year, shortly before his tragic death.
Cassidy shared the note in a tribute posted on Instagram, a week after Payne passed away from a fall in Argentina at the age of 31.
Cassidy revealed that just weeks before his death, they spent an evening discussing their future together. “I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it,” she wrote.
The note, handwritten by Payne, read, “Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever.”
In her emotional post, Cassidy reflected on the deep bond they shared, writing, “Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel.”
She added, “I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go.”
Payne had been in a relationship with the American influencer since 2022, and the two were together in South America just days before his untimely death on October 16.
However, Cassidy had already left Argentina before the tragic incident.
In her tribute, Cassidy expressed the heartbreak she felt, saying, “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words.”
She went on to praise Payne’s infectious positivity and the impact he had on the world.
“You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone – millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved,” she wrote.
Cassidy also shared her struggle with his loss: “None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side.” She continued, “Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself.”
Payne’s sudden death has triggered an outpouring of grief from fans, friends, and his family across the globe.
His father, Geoff Payne, is currently in Buenos Aires as authorities conduct investigations and tests before allowing Payne’s body to be returned to the UK.
Investigators are reviewing phone, computer, and security footage to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
