Polly Sellman, a participant on Married at First Sight (MAFS), says her time on the Channel 4 reality show has taught her valuable lessons about handling conflict.
Speaking to BBC Radio Kent, the Maidstone-based career advisor admitted to feeling “ashamed” and “mortified” after watching herself engage in heated arguments with fellow contestants.
The popular social experiment sees singles marry complete strangers, meeting only at the altar, though the unions aren’t legally binding.
Sellman initially gained viewer sympathy when her groom, Adam Nightingale, said she wasn’t his type.
But as tensions grew, so did viewer criticism, with Sellman revealing she has since faced online abuse.
Reflecting on her behavior, she said, “Watching it back, I have been absolutely mortified… I can’t sit here and say I don’t think I did anything wrong. It was awful. I do not condone that behaviour.”
Yet despite the challenging moments, Sellman praised the show’s production team, calling the experience “amazing from start to finish.”
She also acknowledged that her approach to conflict needed adjustment: “I definitely have learned that there are ways of going about things to solve conflict, and I know that me being like a dog with a bone isn’t the best way to go about things.”
With the show’s ninth season still airing, Sellman remains tight-lipped about her relationship status with Nightingale, though she confirmed that she has no plans to leave Kent for Nottingham, his Midlands home.
“There’s no sea,” she explained. “I have to be near a body of water. I am a water baby.”
