Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna believes in the power of embracing one’s roots, saying, “When you are showing your identity, you shine all the time.”
At 22, she has captivated millions with her soulful music, gaining international recognition and even collaborating with Coldplay.
This year marks her first European tour, through which she hopes to share her Palestinian heritage “through music and art.”
Born in Nazareth, an Arab city in northern Israel, Elyanna identifies strongly with her Palestinian roots. Her family moved to California in 2017, but her bond with Palestine remains unshaken.
In April 2023, she made history as the first artist to perform an entire set in Arabic at the prestigious Coachella music festival.
Elyanna’s artistry reflects her deep connection to her homeland.
Her song “Olive Branch,” written with her brother and mother, is dedicated to the resilience of the Palestinian people.
Amid ongoing conflict, she has used her platform to express solidarity, even postponing a tour last year in support of Gaza.
Despite the complexities surrounding global conversations on the Middle East, Elyanna feels no pressure when it comes to speaking out.
“I am very proud of where I come from, who I am, and my identity,” she affirms.
Her mission as an artist is to inspire young people to embrace their heritage, adding, “I always believe in speaking your mind, and everybody should feel free to express how they feel.”
Elyanna’s music blends Arab pop, R&B, EDM, and jazz, capturing themes of love, loss, and longing.
Her teenage dream of performing with Coldplay came true when she joined them during their Glastonbury headline set in 2024, alongside stars like Burna Boy and Little Simz.
Working with Coldplay was “perfect inspiration” for her, calling them “legends” and praising their humility.
Now back on tour, Elyanna values the lessons of patience and perseverance.
She aims to inspire audiences as she was inspired by icons like Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury, and Middle Eastern legend Fairuz.
Seeing Arab fans at her concerts, especially in the UK, fills her with joy.
“I’m always so surprised and inspired that they’re all here to listen to Arabic music,” she says, determined to keep sharing her culture with the world.
